Wout van Aert wins Stage 1 of the Tirreno-Adriatico and wears the first Maglia Azzurra

Wout Van Aert (Team Jumbo-Visma) has won the first stage of the 56th edition of the Corsa dei due Mari, 156km from Lido di Camaiore to Lido di Camaiore, ahead of Caleb Ewan (Lotto Soudal) and Fernando Gaviria (UAE Team Emirates). Wout Van Aert also leads the General Classification and wears the Maglia Azzurra.

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and first Maglia Azzurra Wout van Aert, said: “I started my sprint at the right moment and I managed to keep my speed until the finish. I didn’t really expect to win today in such a fast sprint against Caleb Ewan. I was thinking of taking some time bonuses. I’m really happy and proud to finish off the work of the team.
