Tim Merlier wins Stage 2 of the 2022 Tirreno-Adriatico EOLO. Ganna keeps the Maglia Azzurra

Tim Merlier (Alpecin-Fenix) has won Stage 2 of the Tirreno-Adriatico Eolo, 219km between Camaiore and Sovicille. Olav Kooij (Jumbo-Visma) and Kaden Groves (Team Bike Exchange – Jayco) were second and third on the finish line.

Filippo Ganna (Ineos Grenadiers) retains the Maglia Azzurra.

Statement from the stage winner

Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner Tim Merlier, said: “It feels very good to win for the first time this year. My shape was already good but I didn’t get the results yet. It was again a really hectic sprint. First of all, I had to survive the mountains. Then the team put me in a very good position. Let’s hope that I’ll win again tomorrow but the first goal of the team is already reached.”
