Valle Castellana, 8 March 2024 – Jonas Vingegaard (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) has won the 144 km long Torricella Sicura-Valle Castellana, 5th stage of the 59th edition of the Tirreno-Adriatico Crédit Agricole, ahead of Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) and Jai Hindley (Bora – Hansgrohe).
Jonas Vingegaard also becomes the new Maglia Azzurra.
Speaking seconds after the stage finish, the stage winner and new Maglia Azzurra Jonas Vingegaard said: “We always had the plan to give it a shot today. The team rode amazingly. The plan was perfectly executed and I’m really happy to pay the guys back. We wanted to go full gas from the bottom of the climb with Ben [Tulett] taking over from Attila [Valter] and then Steven [Kruijswijk]. I didn’t know it was the international women’s day but I dedicated this win to my wife for all the support she gives me”.
