Tirreno Adriatico 2026 route announced

16/01/2026

The 61st edition of the Tirreno Adriatico Crédit Agricole, scheduled from 9 to 15 March, was presented today at the Parlamentino of Palazzo Li Madou in Ancona.

The Race of the Two Seas will cross five Italian regions with a varied route offering opportunities for every type of rider: from the individual time trial in Lido di Camaiore, which as per recent tradition will open the battle for the Maglia Azzurra, to the final stage in San Benedetto del Tronto, where the Trident of Neptune will be raised to the sky.

After setting aside the summit finishes that had characterised recent editions, the route remains full of challenges, such as the gravel sector concluding the San Gimignano stage and the numerous short, steep climbs featured in the stages through the Marche region, which are likely to play a decisive role in shaping the general classification.

The overall elevation gain increases to 15,550 metres, compared to 14,400 metres in the 2025 edition.

09/03/2026 | STAGE 1, LIDO DI CAMAIORE-LIDO DI CAMAIORE TUDOR ITT, 11.5 KM

A perfectly flat individual time trial made up of two almost entirely straight out-and-back sections along the seafronts of Camaiore and Viareggio, with only a few connecting corners and a turnaround point. A U-turn at km 5.4 in Viareggio marks the intermediate time check. The return leg heads straight back to Lido di Camaiore, where an S-bend leads into the final kilometre.

10/03/2026 | STAGE 2, CAMAIORE-SAN GIMIGNANO, 206 KM

An undulating and complex stage, especially in the second half. Starting from Camaiore, the route passes through Montemagno to reach Pisa and then the Livorno area, leaving the coast near Cecina to head inland towards Pomarance. The climb on the Cerreto road features sections with double-digit gradients. The race continues over the climb of Castelnuovo Val di Cecina, followed by a sequence of rolling terrain leading to a 5.3 km gravel sector on the outskirts of San Gimignano. The gravel is mainly uphill, with some very steep sections. The finish is in the town centre, with a final short ramp at 15% at the entrance to San Gimignano.

11/03/2026 | STAGE 3, CORTONA-MAGLIANO DE’ MARSI, 225 KM

A very long and gently rolling stage, characterised by a succession of mild ups and downs, including areas such as Todi and the Marmore Falls. A fast finale, gradually rising over the final 15 km, leads to the finishing straight with an average gradient of around 3%.

12/03/2026 | STAGE 4, TAGLIACOZZO-MARTINSICURO, 210 KM

A stage that opens with two classic Apennine climbs, Ovindoli and the Valico delle Capannelle, followed by a long descent towards Teramo. The final section features a sequence of steep climbs and short ramps. Riders tackle Castellalto (with gradients around 12% for long stretches), Mosciano Sant’Angelo, and, 12 km from the finish, the Tortoreto climb via Badetta, which reaches 20% in its final section. A short descent precedes around 8 km along the seafront to the finish.

13/03/2026 | STAGE 5, MAROTTA-MONDOLFO-MOMBAROCCIO, 186 KM

A highly undulating stage dotted with numerous climbs of varying difficulty, at least ten in total, some classified as KOMs. From Marotta, the route passes through Mondolfo and then tackles a succession of climbs in the Metauro River area, including Villa del Monte and Monterolo, before ascending Monte delle Cesane, whose opening kilometres feature gradients of around 15%. After passing through Saltara and Cartoceto, the race reaches Mombaroccio and enters a 21.6 km finishing circuit to be covered twice. The circuit includes several rolling sections and the very demanding climb to the Santuario del Beato Sante. The final summit is crested 1,500 metres from the finish, followed by a 300 m uphill sprint.

14/03/2026 | STAGE 6, SAN SEVERINO MARCHE-CAMERINO, 189 KM

A very demanding and undulating stage, featuring numerous climbs, including the Sassotetto ascent (Valico di Santa Maria Maddalena) around halfway through the route. The race then reaches Camerino via the eastern side of the city before entering a tough 29.1 km finishing circuit to be completed twice. After a turnaround near Castelraimondo, the route gradually turns uphill, leading into the final 3 km on the Muro della Madonna delle Carceri, with gradients reaching 18%. The finish is located at the top of the third ascent.

15/03/2026 | STAGE 7, CIVITANOVA MARCHE-SAN BENEDETTO DEL TRONTO, 143 KM

A stage that is slightly undulating in the opening part and completely flat over the final 80 km. The start follows the Adriatic coast before heading inland through the Aso Valley from Pedaso and climbing to Montefiore dell’Aso. After a short descent, the route reaches Ripatransone via the final gentle climb. A long descent leads to Grottammare, before entering a 15 km finishing circuit to be completed five times. The circuit runs mainly on wide, straight roads.

Quotes

Francesco Acquaroli, President of the Marche Region: “The Tirreno–Adriatico is one of the most important and well-known sporting events not only in Italy, but worldwide. For many years, the Race of the Two Seas has been an event capable of engaging territories, local authorities and fans alike, becoming an extraordinary tool for promoting and enhancing our Region. For us, sport is a fundamental vehicle on many levels, from social cohesion to education, and all the way to the contribution it offers to younger generations. Moreover, top-level competition allows us to showcase our natural and cultural beauty to millions of enthusiasts around the world. Cycling is one of the most widely followed sports globally, and the Tirreno–Adriatico is one of those races that succeeds in connecting people and territories on an international scale. It is a source of pride and honor for us to see our roads, villages and landscapes crossed by a competition of such high prestige: mayors and local communities experience this event with great participation“.

Stefano Allocchio, Race Director at RCS Sport: “The route of the 61st Tirreno Adriatico stems from the desire to return to the traditional identity of this race, which over the years has always been extremely selective even without summit finishes. We have designed a demanding course, with stages exceeding 3,500–4,000 metres of elevation gain, requiring riders to be complete in every aspect. In this context, the Marche region once again plays a central role in the Race of the Two Seas, providing an ideal setting for the decisive stages of the race. We expect a world-class start list, in line with the history of an event that has become a proving ground for riders who go on to be protagonists on the most prestigious stages of the season, both in the Classics and the Grand Tours“.

Tiziano Consoli, Councillor for Sport of the Marche Region: “With great pride, we begin the journey towards the 61st edition of Tirreno Adriatico. For the Marche, this is not only a world-class sporting event, but a tradition that since 1966 has brought together sport, territory and beauty. Also in 2026, the Race of the Two Seas will be one of the five pillars of the WorldTour in Italy organised by RCS Sport, alongside the great Classics and the Giro d’Italia, confirming the Marche as a central stage of international cycling. I would like to thank RCS Sport for the continued trust shown in our region, also demonstrated in 2025, an extraordinary year that saw the Marche play a leading role with Tirreno Adriatico, the men’s Giro d’Italia, the Giro d’Italia Women and the Giro-E. In 2026 we raise the bar even higher: in addition to the Race of the Two Seas, on 16 May we will host the finish of the Chieti–Fermo stage of the Giro d’Italia. The true strength of Tirreno Adriatico, however, lies in its ability to tell the story of the Marche to the world, thanks to media coverage capable of reaching millions of viewers“.

Luca Mecchi, Sports Councillor of the Municipality of Camaiore: “The marriage between Camaiore and the Race of the Two Seas is a well-established union: for ten years now, this wonderful race has started from our municipality, a two-day cycling event that makes us the capital of cycling. On the first day, the time trial showcases the seafront of our Versilia, while on the second day the start will take place from the historic centre of Camaiore. Tirreno Adriatico is a race with worldwide visibility, which has brought the strongest riders in the world to our roads – Roglič, Vingegaard, Pogačar and Ganna. For us, it is an honour to once again host this great competition“.

Roberto Pella, Presidente of the Lega del Ciclismo Professionistico: “Tirreno Adriatico has always been a fundamental proving ground, highlighting the riders who are targeting the major stage races. At the same time, it represents a key stepping stone for the classics specialists ahead of Milano–Sanremo, as well as for those preparing for the Giro d’Italia. We are talking about a UCI WorldTour-level event, capable of attracting the very best riders and the most important teams in the world – a source of pride for Italy, which boasts 18 races among the top 100 worldwide. The Marche Region will be at the heart of a fascinating route that starts in Tuscany, once again confirming how cycling is a sport that enhances local territories and brings communities together through healthy and shared support. Congratulations to RCS Sport and to President Urbano Cairo, who continue to deliver some of the most beautiful and widely appreciated events on the global sporting stage“.

Andrea Tonti: “It will be a Tirreno Adriatico different from the usual, without a summit finish but featuring very technical and selective stages. We are talking about 15,000 metres of elevation gain over seven days of racing, a figure that should not be underestimated. The Marche region is expected to host the decisive stages for the general classification, with stages five and six featuring two very demanding final circuits. I expect many champions to be at the start for what should be a very hard-fought race“.
