Alaphilippe’s overwhelming success

11/02/2022

The 2021 Tirreno-Adriatico had one of the finest roster of participants in the history of this race.
Stage 2, running for 202 kilometres from Camaiore to Chiusdino, definitely put some talent on display.
The breakaway riders were swallowed up with 35 km to go, after spending most of the day off the front. Bernal kicked clear first, joined by Asgreen and Yates. Then, a chase group formed that included Almeida, Sivakov, Landa and, again, Yates.
With 1 km to go, Almeida was leading solo, and Geraint Thomas attacked, followed by Alaphilippe, van Aert, and all the best ones.
Van Aert and Pogačar tried to respond when the World Champion launched a perfectly timed attack. Van der Poel, too, tried to jump across to them. And still, there was nothing they could do. Alaphilippe proved the strongest of the bunch that day.
Which was your favourite podium trio at the 2021 Tirreno-Adriatico?
