AN EXCEPTIONAL CAST FOR THE 2017 TIRRENO-ADRIATICO

The 52th edition of the Tirreno-Adriatico NamedSport, 8 to 14 March, organised by RCS Sport / La Gazzetta dello Sport features an exceptional cast.

The race connects the Tyrrhenian Sea with the Adriatic Sea through seven stages: a Team Time Trial and an Individual Time Trial open and close the race; in between are two stages for sprinters, two for finisseurs and an uphill finish of the 1,675m Monte Terminillo (Campoforogna). Many big name riders are expected to start the Corsa dei Due Mari.

THE GC CONTENDERS

GC contenders include Nairo Quintana (Movistar Team), winner of the Corsa dei Due Mari in 2015; Vincenzo Nibali (Bahrain-Merida), the winner of the Giro d’Italia in 2016 who is chasing his third victory after wins here in 2012 and 2013. Other contenders include Fabio Aru (Astana Pro Team), Thibaut Pinot (FDJ), Bauke Mollema (Trek-Segfredo), Tejay van Garderen (BMC Racing Team), Tom Dumoulin (Team Sunweb), Geraint Thomas e Mikel Landa (Team Sky), Adam Yates (Orica-Scott), Rafał Majka (Bora–Hansgrohe), Rigoberto Uran (Cannondale–Drapac Pro Cycling Team) e Rui Costa (UAE Abu Dhabi), recente vincitore dell’Abu Dhabi Tour.

Among the finisseurs likely to feature on the Pomarance and Fermo finish lines (stages 2 and 5) are: the Olympic Champion and reigning Tirreno-Adriatico champion Greg Van Avermaet (BMC Racing Team) and two-time World Champion Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe), each having already claimed an important victory this year – the Omloop Het Nieuwsblad and Kuurne-Brussels-Kuurne, respectively.
